About Us

2.5 million+ children so far
Our
Story

First, a bit of history . . .
World Friendship Among Children takes its name from the committee organized in 1926 by Sidney L. Gulick, a Congregational minister, and his collegues at the United Federation of Churches of Christ in New York. The U.S. government had just passed an anti-immigration act in 1924 that disallowed emigration from Asia, especially Japan, and denied citizenship to those who had come earlier. Much like today, immigration is a major issue that is often accompanied by fear, discrimination, and prejudice. Gulick believed that if children learned about others those fears and prejudices would be alleviated, making a safer, more peaceful world for them as adults. The initial mission reached 2.5 million children on both sides of the Pacific, with more since 1986 when our founders began reaching out.

And now.. . .
Over the years we have given presentations, organized doll festivals, and worked with school groups, Scouts, and others to enable them to become ambassadors of friendship. We are now branching out online to bring the Doll Mission's message of goodwill to as many children as possible.
